Machined wood chassis on Etsy
The 1958 Ferrari 246 F1 was a remarkable car that left a significant mark on Formula 1 history. Designed by Vittorio Jano and Carlo Chiti, the 246 F1 was powered by a 2.4-liter V6 engine, making it the first Formula 1 car to use a V6 engine. This engine, known as the Dino V6, produced around 280 horsepower at 8500 rpm, providing the car with impressive speed and performance.
The Ferrari 246 F1 had a successful racing record, with Mike Hawthorn driving it to win the 1958 World Drivers' Championship. The car secured victories at the French Grand Prix and the Moroccan Grand Prix, showcasing its competitive edge. Despite facing strong competition from the Vanwall team, the Ferrari 246 F1's reliability and performance helped it achieve consistent results throughout the season.
